Tell us a little bit about yourself! How did you get where you are now?
Nouveau Styling was borne in 2019 after I relocated interstate to picturesque Currumbin. As I evolved, so did my life, personal and business names. Incidentally ‘nouveau’ means’ new’ in French! Now very happily known as Deborah Nouveau of Nouveau Styling, my new creative interior design and property styling chapter is forging onward and upward!
So dreams became my reality over 20 years ago with ‘Interior Decorating Diploma’ in hand pursuing a creative life doing what I love every day whilst helping others achieve their design dreams.
My first lucky break came through consulting for Crocker’s Paint and Wallpaper as a Colour Consultant. After some 10 years on, I produced hundreds of gorgeous interior & exterior colour schemes to clients throughout Sydney and the Illawarra. During this time, I also fostered a long-standing business relationship with Marksman Homes, HIA award winning builder creating and styling 15 deluxe residential project homes from start to finish.
Why do you think it is important to have your property styled when selling your home?
Staging creates a more inviting and appealing ambience. By utilising beautiful furniture and luxurious soft furnishings to prepare a home for the real estate market, the space is transformed into one that the highest number of potential buyers can connect with emotionally. This feeling allows them to see the optimal potential of the space, thereby selling a property more swiftly and for a higher price.
What is your creative process for choosing a style when decorating a house?
True design is centred around the unique requirements and desires of each client. For me, this process is intuitive, communicative and educated. ‘A great interior decorator easily reads the person and it is only by really understanding them, that it is possible to produce a design that meets every aspect of the brief’.
Each client’s home, location, aspect and surroundings are crucial elements, all carefully considered along with pre-existing fixtures, architectural features, niches or interesting quirks. Additionally existing artwork and furniture will also determine the decorating style.
Throughout the journey from project concept to completion, the client’s aspirations are prudently well-thought-out and presented by trialling different ideas, matching samples with paint, flooring, furniture and soft furnishings. This process assists clients to build a picture in their minds to inspire, excite and delight them to visualise the desired outcome.
What services do you offer to your clients?
Complete start-to-finish designs and project management services or flexible part packages. I am able to integrate a client’s current furniture with the addition of new soft furnishings to transform a space that is stylish and functional for every budget.
My love of colour, texture, flowers, interior styling, home staging, space planning and decluttering spaces are my greatest strengths. Each project is seamlessly executed and beautifully completed with flair and attention to the finer details.
In your opinion, what makes a house a home?
Home is where the heart is and being with the ones you love! Only surrounding yourself with treasures you adore! It’s about creating that feeling of ‘coming home’…. to your calm sanctuary, somewhere you feel your authentic self. If a house emanates those ‘good mood vibes’, you have created a beautiful home! At the core, this is probably what my interior design is all about.
